The Argentine scored a hat-trick in his side’s 4-2 win over Deportivo La Coruna, which secured them their 25th LaLiga title – the seventh in 10 years – on Sunday.
With his first strike, Messi reached 30 LaLiga goals for the 2017/18 campaign and he has now achieved this milestone in seven out of the last nine seasons.
In doing so, he became the first ever player to score at least 30 goals in LaLiga in seven different campaigns, as Opta pointed out.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, was also chasing the same record this season, having hit the 30-goal mark in six of his previous eight campaigns. However, the Los Blancos superstar is currently stuck on 24 LaLiga goals after being rested in three of Real’s last five league fixtures.
Overall, Messi now sits on 43 goals in all competitions, the joint-most in Europe alongside Mohamed Salah, while Ronaldo has scored 42 times.
