​Paris Saint-Germain have 'tentatively' agreed a €200m deal to allow Brazil star Neymar to move back to La Liga in the summer, just two ​years after he left Barcelona in dramatic fashion. 

The Brazilian has been an unqualified success on the pitch, contributing to an outrageous 64 goals in 46 games since his world record move to the French capital. Yet he has failed so far to bring the Champions League success and individual acclaim that both parties were hoping the deal would lead to. 

Last season fizzled out for ​Neymar when he broke his foot at the end of February, ending his season prematurely and leaving him racing to be fit in time for the World Cup, with PSG failing to overcome a two goal deficit in their Champions League round of 16 second leg against ​Real Madrid without him just weeks later. 

​AS report that Catalan TV station Betevé report that PSG have agreed a tentative starting point of a €200m fee for a summer departure, with Neymar thus far failing to get close to his main objective while in Paris – individual recognition outside of the shadow of ​Lionel Messi. 

Part of the reason for his failure to distance himself from the pack as an individual superstar is the arrival and emergence of ​Kylian Mbappe at the club – which goes some way to explaining why PSG appear willing to let their world record buy leave just two years after his arrival, with a Financial Fair Play investigation looming. 

Barcelona and Real Madrid, unsurprisingly, are the two sides leading the race, with the former apparently already opening talks with the French club via club negotiator and Neymar 'confidant' Andre Cury.

​Real Madrid’s uncharacteristically muted transfer window could have a more fitting showbiz finish if PSG are to be sanctioned by UEFA for breaches of their Financial Fair Play regulations, a decision which will be reached later today.

If they are found to have been in breach of those rules, they’ll likely be forced into releasing one of their two recent big-money arrivals, the Brazilian star Neymar or, more likely, the former Monaco tyro Kylian Mbappe, with Real Madrid a “likely destination” for the World Cup-winner should he leave, according to Spanish outlet AS.

The loan portion of the loan-to-buy deal that the Qatari-backed French giants picked up Mbappe with expires this Friday, at which point they’ll have to pay Monaco an agreed €180M fee or move him to a club that can. Depending on the result of today’s decision, there is a chance that he’ll have to be moved on.

AS claim that Real, who are yet to reinvest the €100M fee they fetched for the departed Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, are the only European club in a position to afford the outlay of bringing him on board. Their chairman, Florentino Perez, is a long-standing, vocal fan of the player.

It might be that the Spanish league authorities have done their member club Real a favour; speaking to AS this week LaLiga president Javier Tebas confirmed that it was the organisation that pressed UEFA to re-examine the books at the Parc des Princes.

"It’s true that at the start of the summer, we asked Uefa to reopen the investigation into PSG," he said.

"The relationship between the two clubs is extraordinary, so that, if at some point Real Madrid were considering signing a PSG player, the first thing it would do would be to go to his club."

It is the second statement Madrid have made to dismiss rumours of interest in Neymar in July, having already denied talk of a €310 million (£275m/$360m) transfer.

Neymar became the world's most expensive player when he swapped Barca for PSG in a staggering €222m (£195m/$260m) deal less than 12 months ago.

Despite completing a domestic treble, he is rumoured to have already grown frustrated in Paris with a last-16 exit at the hands of Los Blancos prematurely ending the Ligue 1 club's hopes of winning the Champions League.

Madrid's decision to turn their attention away from Neymar could see them step up their reported interest in Chelsea's Eden Hazard, while Kylian Mbappe has also been described as a potential heir to the throne left vacant by Ronaldo, the club's all-time leading scorer.

The long-serving Madrid full-back told reporters while readying himself for World Cup duty alongside Neymar: “Cristiano doesn’t own Real Madrid so if the president wants to sign somebody he will do it.

“If Cristiano stays, does that mean that Neymar can’t come? We all want Ronaldo to stay and Neymar has our doors wide open.

“Madrid always have to find the best players and I think Neymar will play for Real Madrid one day.”

Marcelo has also suggested that Neymar will one day inherit a crown currently owned by Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar claimed the fifth Ballon d’Or of his career in 2017, but it is expected that he will one day pass the title of best player in the world to a man who has finished third in the voting on two previous occasions.

“I’ve yet to understand how the Ballon D’or works,” said Marcelo.

“I just don’t know if you get it because of the titles you’ve won, the season you’ve completed or just how good you are as a player. It’s up to those voting.

“To me, Ronaldo is the world’s greatest right now and I have no doubt in my mind that Neymar will be just as good.”

Neymar hit 28 goals in an injury-hit 2017-18 campaign for Ligue 1 title winners PSG, while Ronaldo plundered 44 for Madrid as they swept to a third successive Champions League crown.

Fans were not happy with what many felt was greediness from Neymar, especially as the team was already winning 7-0 against Dijon when the spot-kick was awarded, and voiced their frustrations in that particular match.

Neymar’s mother is said to feel her son is better off back in Spain, but with Los Blancos – a team he considered rivals during his time with FC Barcelona.

It has been said that Santos was delighted with how the Real players treated her son during a pre-season friendly in August, when he still represented the Catalan giants.

The French club has continued to insist that their superstar is staying put in France, but a lot can happen between now and the end of the transfer window.

Zinedine Zidane has no doubt Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo would be able to play together in the same team but refused to be drawn on whether Real Madrid will table a bid for the Brazil superstar.

Neymar left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record €222 million (£196m/$266m) switch last August.

Although he proved a big hit in the French capital before a broken metatarsal at the end of February curtailed his season, the 26-year-old has been persistently linked with another blockbuster switch to Madrid.

A report by Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo on Thursday claimed Neymar had told his PSG team-mates he intends to leave at the end of the season, but Zidane was keen not to stoke further speculation at a pre-match news conference for Saturday's LaLiga game against Celta Vigo.

"At the moment, all I can tell you is I'm worried about what's coming up," said the French coach, who will look to win a third consecutive Champions League title against Liverpool at the end of this month.

"After the final we'll talk with the club about next year and what changes will be made. But I can't talk about anything like that [Neymar] at the moment."

However, recalling a link-up with fellow France star Youri Djorkaeff during his own playing career, Zidane rejected suggestions Neymar's arrival would represent bad news for Madrid's all-time record goalscorer Ronaldo.

"Good player are always compatible," he said. "I remember one year they said I wasn't compatible to play with Djorkaeff. We won the World Cup together.

"So good players can always play together. On the pitch there is a chemistry."

Zidane added: "I don't know if we are negotiating for Neymar. What's worrying us is what is going on at the moment.

"I haven't asked Neymar personally because I don't get involved in these things. We have to finish this season, the rest will come after."

Defeat to Liverpool on the back of Barcelona's procession to La Liga glory could mean Madrid planning for the future without Zidane, irrespective of whether Neymar is on the way.

Well-versed in how matters play out in the Santiago Bernabeu's corridors of power, the 45-year-old is typically relaxed about his situation.

"I don't have to say yes or no," Zidane replied when asked about whether he expected to stay. "What happens will happen.

"As you all know here, I'm always positive. I always think about one thing, which is doing everything possible to win.

"What happens, will happen. Here, what counts are the results. That's all.

"The rest, well… we can talk a lot about the rest."

​Real Madrid are believed to be keen to break the world record fee for Neymar, and new reports suggest that Paris Saint-Germain would sell him for a whopping €400 million.

The Brazilian joined the French giants in a deal €222 million transfer in August and has since racked up impressive statistics in Ligue 1.

His 29 goals and 19 assists in 30 games in 2017/18 stand in contrast to Los Blancos’ struggles in both domestic competitions, and have spurred on reports that Real’s bosses are keen to lure the former FC Barcelona star to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Neymar missed the second leg of his side’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie defeat to the Spanish giants due to injury, and it is believed he would already be prepared to turn his back on PSG and join Real.

Spanish publication AS has now suggested that the Ligue 1 side, whose representatives – including president Nasser Al-Khelaifi – have previously insisted the 26-year-old is not for sale, would be prepared to let Neymar go for €400 million.

According to the report, delegates from Real met with Neymar’s father and two attorneys a few weeks ago in order to explore a possible deal, and €400 million apparently emerged as PSG’s asking price.

While it remains questionable as to whether or not Real would be prepared to pay that kind of money for Neymar, other reports have linked the superstar with a return to FC Barcelona.
