Last week, the 33-year-old stated in a press conference that he will be moving on from the Catalan giants once the season ends after 22 years at the club.
While Iniesta insisted he feels moving on from Barca now feels like the right thing to do, other reports have speculated it could be down to a reoccurring injury he has dealt with all season.
According to AS, Iniesta left the field in the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla with a calf strain, which forced him to start from the bench in their last LaLiga game.
The report claims that the calf injury has plagued the midfielder all season, and has ultimately caused him to decide to move on from the club to a perhaps less demanding league.
The report also says that for the player, the 2018 FIFA World Cup is a priority, and that he will only feature in Barca’s remaining LaLiga games if necessary.
In his farewell conference, Iniesta insisted that he has always wanted to give his all for the team and that he may not be able to do so if he continues.
After 16 years in the first team, Iniesta will be joining the Chinese Super League next season, though the club he will sign for has not yet been revealed.
