​Real Madrid have leapfrogged Arsenal in the race for Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez and are ready to active his £53 million release clause.

Real Madrid are ready to raid local rivals Atletico Madrid in order to secure the signature of defender Jose Gimenez, reports Marca.

The Champions League winners were interested in Gimenez in 2015, but thought the tense rivalry between the two clubs prohibited any sale.
