European football’s governing body announced its annual Team of the Year on Thursday, after almost 8.8 million votes were cast by users on UEFA’s official website.
Gianluigi Buffon was voted as the preferred goalkeeper, receiving 41.8% of the votes in his position.
Sergio Ramos was the most selected player overall, being chosen in 73.7% of the voters’ teams, followed by his teammate Marcelo, who appeared in 70% of the best XIs.
The defence is completed by Dani Alves, who received 42.7%, and Giorgio Chiellini with 37.1%.
In midfield, Kevin De Bruyne received the most votes with 52.2%, accompanied by Real duo Luka Modric, who got 48.5%, and Toni Kroos with 43.3%.
Lionel Messi was, with 59.8%, the most selected forward, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo with 55.7%, and, somewhat surprisingly, Eden Hazard with 38%.
Los Blancos have the most players, five, in UEFA’s Team of the Year, followed by Juventus with two of their stars, while Paris Saint-Germain, FC Barcelona, Manchester City and Chelsea have one representative each.
